We uphold the highest ethical standards and prioritize the safety and well-being of children, in compliance with the South Australian Children and Young People (Safety) Act 2017 and the National Principles for Child Safe Organisations. This Code of Conduct outlines principles, guidelines, and behavioural do's and don'ts that all employees, volunteers, and staff must follow when interacting with children and young people.
Agreement to Code of Conduct All employees, contractors, and volunteers must agree to and sign this Code of Conduct before commencing employment or work.
Behavioural Do's
Prioritise Safety and Well-being: Always prioritize the safety, well-being, and best interests of children and young people in all interactions and decision-making. Treat with Respect: Show respect, kindness, and patience when interacting with children, valuing their opinions and ensuring their voices are heard. Establish Boundaries: Maintain appropriate professional boundaries, avoiding any behaviour that may be misconstrued or inappropriate.
Informed Consent: Obtain informed consent from parents or legal guardians before providing services to children.
Listen Actively: Actively listen to the concerns and needs of children, acknowledging their feelings and experiences.
Reporting: Be alert to signs of harm and promptly report any concerns to the Child Harm Report Line (13 14 78).
Empowerment: Encourage children to express themselves and participate in decisions regarding their care.
Privacy and Confidentiality: Respect privacy and confidentiality, sharing personal information only when legally required or with appropriate consent.
Cultural Sensitivity: Embrace diversity and promote inclusivity in all aspects of care.
Professional Development: Continually enhance skills to provide the best quality care.
Appropriate Touch: Seek consent and explain any necessary physical contact.
Behavioural Don'ts
No Unauthorised Physical Contact: Do not engage in any unauthorized physical contact with children.
No Verbal or Physical Harm: Never engage in verbal or physical harm toward children under any circumstances.
No Invasive Questions: Avoid asking intrusive questions not directly related to care or treatment.
No Favouritism: Treat all children fairly, avoiding any preferential treatment.
No Discrimination or Bullying: Do not discriminate or bully based on any characteristic.
No Sharing Personal Information: Do not share personal information about children without authorization.
No Neglect of Supervision: Never neglect or compromise supervision of children.
No Inappropriate Language or Behaviour: Avoid inappropriate language or behaviour that could harm children.
No Dual Relationships: Avoid engaging in relationships that pose conflicts of interest.
No Retaliation: Do not retaliate against individuals reporting concerns regarding child safety.
Reporting and Addressing Breaches If the Code of Conduct is breached, it is critical to handle the situation promptly to ensure the safety of our clients. We encourage anyone who becomes aware of a breach, particularly related to child safety, to report it immediately.
